History The theatre was born in February 2009 when a group of enthusiasts, who have been into juggling and different kinds of acrobatics for years, decide to create a new formation. The troupe is headed by Plamen Ivanov and named Fire and Shade Theatre – Fireter. The name reflects the essence of the initiative – a fusion of fire and theatre. It was given to the troupe by Toni Petrov on a cold February night on the way home. Later, Toni created the first website and the logo of the theatre. Mariza Amaral made the Portuguese version of the site.
At the beginning, the theatre was still small – it was comprised by three people, Silviya Kazarska, Plamen Ivanov and Emil Kirilov, doing fire and stilts performances. At the end of June 2009, Fireter made a workwhop for walking on stilts in front of the Sfumato Theatre in Sofia. There Fireter met a new member of the troupe – Michail Davidov, who at that time was only 18 years old, but quickly became one of the main artists.
“The Balls” During the following months, the theatre created its first big street spectacle, “The Balls”, which had its debut in the summer of 2009. In the meantime, the group found a new member – Ivan Ivanov, the person who prepares and organizes the backstage, instruments and people, and all technical requirements for the shows.
The costumes The costumes for the first show were designed by Boyan Hristov, who became the costume designer of the group. Plamen Ivanov is responsible for the overall vision of the theatre. He creates the hats and images of the costumes, and Boyan Hristov, who gives the technical knowledge and support, creates the magical outlook of the theater.
The mystic music is created by Kliment Dichev, who has been the person busy with the notes since the creation of the theatre. During an improvised open air photo-session for Fireter, two photographers joined the group – Violeta Babaleva and Boyan Hristov. Velinov became the video editor of the project and in June he made the first video of Fireter. During that time, Kristina also jointed the project and later on Cen Rees became one of the main technical supporters of the project.
September 2009 The first big performance came out in the month of September during the puppet theatre festival “Two are Too Few, Three are Too Many” and on the “Night of Museums and Galleries ‘09”, both in Plovidv. There during the performance a river of enchanted people who were following the artists of Fireter flowed and filled the main street in the city. It was an unforgettable moment for every participant in the project. At that important moment, a new member of the group appeared – Rozalya Mitrova. An invitation for participation in the First International Street Theater Festival in Athens followed, as well as one from the puppet theatre in Sibiu, Transilvania, where, in December, Fireter showed “The Balls”. During that time, the troupe was joined by Asen Levov, Kostas Kostas Garametsis and Ilijana Oblakova.
“The Insect” In 2010, the second big show, “The Insect” was created. With it, Fireter opened the theater festival Varna Summer and also took a part in the Sofia International Theater Festival.
“The Dragon” After “The Insect”, the theater created its enormous fire dragon for the Beglika Festival.
“The Flowers” In the next months, the theater created their new show “The Flowers”.
Invitations and traveling increase. Fireter took part in many festivals in Romania, Ukraine, Greece, Macedonia, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Belgium and others. And, over the last two years, Fireter was invited to the biggest festival in Europe, Glastonbury Fest in England.
